Core Modules
Camera and Lighting for Film and TV (15 Credits)
The aims of this module are to enable students to build their specialist knowledge and experience of camera and lighting techniques to gain a deeper understanding of film and television production and its professional and commercial practices and develop an understanding of how technical means can contribute to the communication of character, mood, genre and narrative. Additionally, the module aims to support students to acquire the knowledge and skills in camera and lighting to contribute at a professional level in film and television production.
Editing: Principles and Theories (15 Credits)
The aims of this module are to enable students to build their specialist knowledge and experience of editing theories, tools & techniques to gain a deeper understanding of film and television production and its professional and commercial practices and develop an understand of how editing can contribute to the communication of character, mood, genre and narrative. Additionally, the module aims to support students to acquire the knowledge and skills in editing to contribute at a professional level in film and television production.
Sound for Film and TV (15 Credits)
The aims of this module are to enable students to build their specialist knowledge and experience of sound and recording techniques to gain a deeper understanding of film and television production and its professional and commercial practices and develop an understanding of how sound can contribute to the communication of character, mood, genre and narrative. Additionally, the module aims to support students to acquire the knowledge and skills in sound and recording to contribute at a professional level in film and television production.
Pre-production & Storyboarding (15 Credits)
The aims of this module are to enable students to build their specialist knowledge and experience of pre-production processes to gain a deeper understanding of film and television production and its professional and commercial practices , and develop an understanding of how pre-production and storyboarding practices underpin successful, ethical and effective film and television production. Additionally, the module aims to support students to acquire the knowledge and skills in pre-production to contribute at a professional level in film and television production.
Narrative & Character: Writing for Film & Television (15 Credits)
The aims of this module are to enable students to build their specialist knowledge and experience of writing for film and television to gain a deeper understanding of film and television production and its professional and commercial practices, and develop an understanding of how screenwriting techniques and theories of plot, structure and audience affect can contribute to the communication of character, mood, genre and narrative. Additionally, the module aims to support students to acquire the knowledge and skills in writing for film and/or television to contribute at a professional level in film and television production.
Documentary: Practice & Production (15 Credits)
The aims of this module are to enable students to build their specialist knowledge andexperience of contemporary documentary practice and associated production techniques anddevelop an understanding of how the communication of character, mood, information andnarrative operate in a documentary context. Additionally, the module aims to support students toacquire the knowledge and skills in documentary production to contribute at a professional level in film and television production.
Cinematography: The Filmmaker’s Gaze (15 Credits)
Cinematography: The Filmmaker’s Gaze (15 Credits) The aims of this module are to enable students to build their specialist knowledge and experience of cinematography to gain a deeper understanding of film and television production and its professional and commercial practices, and develop an understanding of how technical means can contribute to the communication of character, mood, genre and narrative. Additionally, the module aims to support students to acquire the knowledge and skills in cinematography to contribute at a professional level in film and television production.
Editing Practices (15 Credits)
The aims of this module are to enable students to build upon their specialist knowledge and experience of advanced editing techniques and workflows to gain a deeper understanding of film and television production and its professional and commercial practices and develop an advanced understanding, informed by theory of how editing can contribute to the communication of character, mood, genre and narrative. Additionally, the module aims to support students to acquire the knowledge and skills in editing practices to contribute at a professional level in film and television production.
Final Research Project
The Graduation Film (60 Credit)
The aims of this module are to enable students to work autonomously on a project of their own devising to produce a substantial film and manage a sustained film production project, including the project planning, designing and creative decision-making at a professional level, and buildupon their specialist knowledge and experience to gain a deeper understanding of film and television production and its professional and commercial practices. The module supports students to position themselves critically within current debates by extending knowledge of relevant histories and current practices demonstrating an understanding of film and television genres, aesthetics and narrative processes.

The entry requirements for the programme are:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline at a level equivalent to a UK second-class Honours degree.
- Applicants must also submit a portfolio of creative work showing appropriate skills in the intended area of study to be considered for these courses.
- For International applicants whose first language is not English, IELTS score of 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in any band), or equivalent
- The school will consider non-standard applicants who can demonstrate that they have relevant work experience over a period of 3 years via a Curriculum Vitae and/or LinkedIn profile.

The supporting documents for the programme are:
- Bachelor’s degree (where applicable) at a level equivalent to a UK second class Honours degree.
- A reference letter from a current or previous manager or HR department or person in a position of authority is required as supporting evidence
- Personal identification documents e.g passport or I.D
- A personal statement (approx. 3-500 words) and/or video presentation about why you want to study this programme.
- Proof of English Language Proficiency (POE) where applicable.
